At the site of the new Woodland Elementary, learning stepped outside the classroom and onto the jobsite. Anastasia Wojcik, Project Manager with Owen-Ames-Kimball Co., sat down with Woodland Elementary Principal Jennifer Carson to talk through a morning built around discovery.
This past spring, staff toured the construction site up close, and students followed with a fence tour, learning about the different parts of the project and getting a look at the equipment that makes it all come together.
The excitement goes well beyond a new building. As Principal Carson shared, the current Woodland community has embraced collaborative teaching and learning, and the new space is designed to become the next educator in the room, supporting that work in ways the old building could not.
Just as meaningful is the chance for students to see construction up close, meet the people on site, and connect what they are learning to what they are watching, take shape. The visit turned the jobsite into a hands-on lesson, from math concepts like area and perimeter to a glimpse of the careers that build a school.
